New Features in Adobe Premiere Pro 25.5
On Sept. 11, 2025, Adobe released the latest version of Premiere Pro (v25.5) Here’s what’s new.
NOTE: I illustrate many of these features in this article.
Feature updates
- 90+ modern, real-time effects and transitions.
- New animation tools.
Additional updates
- Sequence color tabs provide visual indicators for better organization.
- Improvements to the Effect Controls panel make keyframing more predictable.
- New preferences for default fonts for text and captions.
- New keyboard commands to toggle track mute and solo based on targeting.
- Search for Adobe Stock media from the File menu.
- New support for 16-bit PNG images to support newer HDR finishing workflows that require high-bit-depth media.
- Improved data range and color metadata handling for DNxHR, DNxHD, and PNG.
- Completely rewritten support for MKV.
Fixed issues
- Exporting sequences that included Motion Graphics templates could cause system memory to continually increase until the system ran out of memory or crashed.

Premiere 25.5 is totally unusable for me. I’m doing a 5-cam multi-camera edit with 4 1080p & 1 1080i cams.
The software will “work” for a couple edits, then the app freezes, except for the audio which keeps playing…AND WILL NOT STOP!
not.good.
ALSO, @ every edit I make, Premiere makes TWO cuts in the timeline. The first is a 1-frame FLASH of a random camera from my multi-cam, THEN it goes to the camera I chose.
I rolled-back to version 25.2.3…and it seems to be working better… for now.

Wow! Seriously bad news.
Thanks for letting us know.

I get the sneaking feeling that this whole “upgrade” was written…

How about posting your computer, ram, graphics card, drives? All those matter, even if previous PP version worked. Someone might have some insight
Bret:
Good point – I keep forgetting to ask those obvious questions.
