New Features in Adobe Premiere Pro 25.2

Posted on by Larry

Adobe added more AI features into the latest release of Premiere, along with a variety of other useful features and bug fixes.

Here’s what’s new:

Generative Extend. Unlike generative AI, which creates pictures out of whole cloth, this feature – powered by Adobe Firefly – seamlessly adds frames to the beginning or end of a clip. This lets you stretch a clip to cover an extra second or two.

AI-powered Media Intelligence and Search. Using everyday language search existing media based on imagery, spoken words, or content. This searches visuals, transcripts, and clip-based metadata across thousands of shots in seconds. All AI processing is done on device, meaning nothing is uploaded to the Cloud.

NOTE: Media Intelligence indexes can also be created in the background using Adobe Media Encoder.

Caption Translation. This automates generating multilingual captions created in Premiere or imported as SRT files.

Improved color management. This was radically improved, making it easier to use wide-gamut camera raw and log-encoded media, simpler to output to multiple formats, and faster to achieve great color.

Improved support for importing MKV (H.264/AAC) files. The import function for these files was completely rewritten to improve compatibility and performance.

Add Content Credentials into exported video files. This supports adding Content Authenticity Initiative (CAI) credentials into video files exported from Premiere Pro or queued for export through Adobe Media Encoder.

Dynamic Audio Waveforms. Audio waveform sizes now adjust as audio levels are adjusted.

Hardware acceleration for Canon Cinema RAW Light. This feature only exists on Apple silicon systems.

Adobe also updated the sample media included with the application.

  1. Hi Larry, I always appreciate these types of articles from you. I recently updated Premiere (in an unsuccessful attempt to get a plug-in to work) and have had a heck of a time with Essential Sound. That panel always seems to go haywire with every new release. But mainly I’m writing because I hate the Dynamic Audio Waveforms. We need to actually be able to SEE waveforms in order to cut music to length, etc. This new feature serves zero purpose, and I haven’t found a way to turn it off. Do you know if it’s possible, or if that option will be added?

For all you editors out there, I recommend NOT updating for a while. I’m not keen on the new interface.
