Grayed Out Audio Filters

Ben Balser pointed this out. He had a client that wanted to apply an audio filter to a clip – except the name of the filter was grayed out in the Effects > Video Filters list.

The problem was Effects Availability. On my system, the effects disappear. On Ben’s client’s system they go gray.

Effects > Effects Availability allows you to limit the number of effects listed by Final Cut. The default setting is to show all effects recommended by Apple. But you can restrict what’s displayed in the Effects list by changing this setting to Only My Preferred Effects.

You control which effects are displayed from the Effects tab in the Browser. Checking a filter in the Preferred column means that when Effects Availability is set to Only Preferred Effects, only those effects that are checked will be displayed in the menus.
