Good stuff Larry. However I’m sure most of us will agree that nothing is better than getting the color right in camera when possible. To do this I’ve been using the Lumu iPhone attachment ($300) that turns the phone into a very accurate light meter and color temperature reader. (www.lu.mu) Recently I did a 3 camera shoot (2 A7S and 1 PXW-X70) of speakers at a church and beforehand I used the Lumu color temp checker near the podium where the speakers were standing. It showed approximately 3300 degrees Kelvin so I manually set all 3 cameras to 3300 as white balance and it worked beautifully. Then I used techniques such as yours for fine tuning. For Multicam and single camera work I’ll probably never do it any other way when I have time to set up in advance. The Lumu also works great as an incident light meter and has a dedicated Cine/Video mode.

This is an excellent tip; and thanks for referring to Lumu! The challenge, I’ve found, is never the stuff that we shoot, it’s the stuff that shot for us by others.
