FCP X: Create 3D Moves on Still Images [Video]

[This is an excerpt from a recent on-line video training: Create Moves on Stills in Premiere Pro CC and Final Cut Pro X, which you can download from our store. You can also access all our training when you become a Video Training Library subscriber.]

Still images are at the heart of almost every documentary. Using a still is fine, but getting it to move is far better. Whether you need to animate old photos, or add excitement when only stills are available, we often need to make still images move.

In this short video tutorial, host Larry Jordan shows how to create the illusion of movement in depth on a still image. (While this demo uses Final Cut Pro X, these same concepts also work in all versions of Adobe Premiere Pro and Final Cut Pro 7.)

Hi Larry – now that’s a priceless effect! Takes the thought of a Ken Burns concept to a new level. Also, had no idea that FCPX could read photoshop file layers like that. As always, your tips are very powerful!

    Love it Larry! Thank you!

  3. Barrie Furminger says:

Great Stuff Thank you. This thought provoking Video leads one into thinking that any background could be used. That’s it! I’m off to try it now.

FCP 7 also reads Photoshop files and one can achieve a similar effect. Now I don’t want to sound dated, just saying… Larry thanks for this nice tutorial. Your videos are neatly made, and well structured, easy to understand. Keep up the good work.

You aren’t dated at all. We’ve been able to do this effect since about FCP 4. Its still a cool effect, once you know how it works.
