Apple Releases Bug-Fix Updates
Thursday last week, Apple released bug-fix updates to Final Cut Pro X, Motion 5 and Compressor 4. Apple also updated the ProVideo codecs.
The Final Cut update fixed the color flicker problem that first appeared in version 10.4.9, along with a variety of other bugs. It also, at least on my system, fixed the bug preventing voice-overs from actually recording.
One bug that was NOT fixed is the inability to export chapter markers from FCP X. Apple is still researching this.
Here’s the list of fixes from Apple’s release notes:
Final Cut Pro
- Fixes an issue in which XAVC media from the Sony PXW-FX9 camera is not recognized
- Fixes an issue where brightness levels shift when switching between Better Quality and Better Performance in the viewer
- Fixes an issue in which effect keyframes are not added correctly when using onscreen controls
- Improves stability when using the transform tool with multiple clips in the timeline
- Improves reliability when exporting an FCPXML that contains Compound clips
- Addresses an issue which could prevent sharing at certain resolutions
- Fixes an issue in which sharing a Compound or Multicam clip from the timeline was disabled.
Motion
- Fixes an issue in which XAVC media from the Sony PXW-FX9 camera is not recognized
Compressor
- Fixes an issue in which XAVC media from the Sony PXW-FX9 camera is not recognized

Updates to Final Cut, Motion and Compressor are free and available in the Mac App Store. The ProVideo updates are free and available in System Preferences > Software Update.

In compressor 4.4.8 I am getting an error that compressor can not read my file that I just exported from final cut. So, compressor fails every time. This is the error:
Failed: 3x Source file /Volumes/video drive 1 FCPX/Online Host Segments/ONLINE HOST VIDEOS/October 17-18/QT Online Host Open | October 17-18.mov not readable
I have trashed compressor and reinstalled it and it does the same thing. I have looked everywhere on the web to find a fix and have found nothing. any help would be great.
I have even sent the video straight from Final Cut to compressor and it actually completes the compression but the new file has a yellow exclamation point and a red screen

The yellow exclamation point means there is missing media in your Final Cut project. This is the most likely cause of the failure. Track that down first. It could be in a compound or multicam clip, missing render files, or bad stock media footage.
Next, once the warning disappears, Compressor should handle this. If not, quit Compressor, then restart it while pressing both Option and Command keys. When the screen appears, click the blue button to delete preference files.
If all that doesn’t work, contact Apple Support.

The workaround for chapter markers, export the text file and import into Compressor,seems to work for making DVDs and Blu-Rays with the exception the last chapter marker did not get into Compressor but it could be added manually. There is a problem with closed captions: a file can be exported from FCP and imported into Compressor and that seems to work for DVDs but not Blu-Rays.

This is a GREAT tip. First, I wrote it up as a tutorial here:

Second, the reason the last marker does not import is it needs a Return after it. Open the text file and press Return at the end of the last line, then save the file. Once you do that, all the markers will properly import.
