Long-time newsletter reader and Final Cut Pro developer Alex Gollner (Alex4D) posted a blog late yesterday about a secret meeting between Apple and some of its enterprise customers in London.

Here’s a summary of the key points that Alex listed in his blog, covering tweets from Sam Johnson, who attended the event:
1. FCP XML in/out is coming via 3rd party soon…no FCP 6/7 support project support coming ever it seems…
2. Ability to buy FCP7 licenses for enterprise deployments coming in the next few weeks…
3. FCPX EDL import/export coming soon…
4. FCPX AJA plugins coming soon for tape capture and layback…capture straight into FCPX bins.
5. XSAN support for FCPX coming in the next few weeks…
6. FCPX Broadcast video output via #Blackmagic & @AJAVideo coming soon…
7. Additional codec support for FCPX via 3rd Parties coming soon…
8. Customizable sequence TC in FCPX for master exports coming soon…
9. Some FCPX updates will be free some will cost…
So far, there is no official word from Apple about this.
What I find most interesting about these statements is the degree to which Apple is counting on third-party developers, rather than Apple itself, to provide missing features in Final Cut Pro X.
Next week, both AJA and Blackmagic Design are doing stage presentations at my Final Cut Pro X Event – we should learn a lot more about this latest news then.

Perhaps it has to be with AVfoundations and and the possibility that the same capture window work in different compatible apps (even Premiere if they use AVfoundation APIs in the future)?
The same maybe is for video monitoring. Perhaps is just a system driver that enables output to video broadcast system wide instead a dedicated FCPX driver.
That is a good reason to leave this things for 3rd parties. But who knows.

We don’t really hear much from Matrox. I wonder if they are going to leave us out in the cold.
Matrox made there announcement this morning and categorically stated that there is no way to get video out…
“FCP X does not support professional video monitoring. For full-screen, preview-quality output you can use the second DisplayPort output from your computer in Full Screen Mode”
Peter Wiggins who was also at the meeting clarified that he did not hear anyone say that pro video output was coming. And the original poster has posted several corrections on Twitter after being contacted by Apple.
Re-introducing FCS 3 for “volume licensees” is still under consideration, not coming (and apparently has a legal aspect to the restriction??)

Why it is not possible to get broadcast output from one API? That exceed my limited technical knowledge.

1) Great backlash over FCPX
2) Massive exodus to competing software
3) 3rd party devs wait patiently for the dust to settle before devoting resources to development.
4) Apple promises updates but no timetables are given
5) Exodus continues
6) Avid finally allows precomputes to be loaded into the source monitor. Charges $1500 for the upgrade
7) Apple cancels Logic
8) Developers drop support for stagnant product
9) CS6 with Premiere Pro 6 is released with the ability to copy/paste attributes. Cost is $1800 for the upgrade or $180 per month.
10) Larry Jordan releases Premier Pro Training course
11) Apple cancels the MacPro towers
12) Adobe announces that the entire 25 program Creative Suite will no longer run on OSX.
13) Avid finally allows you to manipulate audio keyframes without selecting tracks. Charges $1500 for the upgrade.
14) Apple releases iFCP for the iPhone and iPad. Charges $2.99.
Apple really screwed us. And its only just begun.
Apple has shown its true colors with regard to the pro-apps.
So, if EDL import/export is coming, couldn’t one export out an EDL for a FCP 7 sequence and import it into FCPX?
Not the same as opening the whole project but imagine being able to pull in all your final sequences from past projects?
Am I out of my mind to think this should be possible?
Partial work-around to not being able to work with older projects?

Probably will be possible to import xml.
I don’t really thing that will be possible to open entire projects. That’s another thing.
Matrox Support (an oxymoron ?)
I’ve NEVER trusted Matrox! Yet I keep purchasing their productions from time to time, shame on me.
The only Matrox product I use currently is the Compress HD card for encoding my FCP 7 ProRes masters in to H.264 Blu-ray ready files to author in Encore. I sent Matrox an email the other day asking if they were going to continue to support Compressor v3 under Lion. My guess is no. Here was their answer:

I just spent almost $500 for that card not too long ago!
I only bought the Matrox Mini ($450) just six months ago. Now it’s a paper weight under FCP X. Who knows if they will make drivers for Lion. Oh, but let’s see the new and upcoming products from Matrox… NOT!
