Here’s a new goodie that was almost invisibly added in a recent update to Final Cut. You now have the ability to show, or hide, clip names in the Timeline.
Have you every tried to set keyframes in an audio clip, only to have trouble seeing the red rubber band because it’s blocked by the name of the clip? Well, fret no more. You can make it disappear!
Here’s how. Click the small right-pointing arrow at the bottom of the Timeline, next to the four bars that determine track height. Check, or uncheck, Show Audio Clip Names, and Show Video Clip Names.
Very simple and handy. And really, really tucked away.
Two new zoom commands have been added to Final Cut Pro 6: Zoom In on Playhead in Timeline, and Zoom Out on Playhead in Timeline.
However, they were not assigned keyboard shortcuts.
You can find them by going to Tools > Button List and typing “on playhead” in the search box.
These are two really helpful functions, so I’ve added them to my standard keyboard shortcuts by assigned them Control+Shift+= (equal sign) to zoom in and Control+Shift+- (hyphen) to zoom out.
This allows my zoom keys to all be variations of hyphen and equals:
Zoom in in active window: Cmd + =
Zoom out in active window: Cmd + –Zoom into Timeline: Option + =
Zoom out of Timeline: Option + –Zoom in on playhead: Control + Option + =
Zoom out on playhead: Control + Option + –
