Recently, FxFactory updated their flagship product, FxFactory Pro, to version 6. To learn more about this update, I emailed Niclas Bahn, head of Business Development at FxFactory.
Larry: Niclas, how would you describe FxFactory Pro?
Niclas: FxFactory Pro is our flagship professional visual effects toolbox for Final Cut Pro, Motion, Premiere Pro & After Effects.
Larry: Why did you create it in the first place?
Niclas: We aimed to create the most effective set of tools for video editors/compositors. A Swiss army knife for everyone working with video.
Larry: Most of us think of FxFactory as an effects store, but is there more to it than that?
Niclas: There’s far more:
Larry: What’s new with version 6? What problems were you trying to solve with this version?
Niclas: FxFactory Pro 6 is the most significant update to our product in years.
The update is free for existing customers, and we’re just getting started!
Larry: Why are some effects limited to just a few NLEs? For example, FCP only?
Niclas: Some effects may make sense in one NLE and not in another because of what the various NLEs have to offer. Furthermore one plugin may be broken up into many individual effects in one host and not in another depending on how the NLE works.
Larry: For people just getting started with FxFactory, it is easy to get overwhelmed with all the choices. Where should they start?
Niclas: The easiest place to start is with the freebies at fxfactory.com/#products-free. You can of course also test commercial products in trial mode free of charge.
Larry: FCP, Premiere, After Effects and the rest all have such different effects engines, how do you manage to get the same effects to run on all of them?
Niclas: This is indeed not easy to do. We have spent many years developing a platform that allows us to build products efficiently for multiple platforms while not compromising the strengths of the individual hosts.
Larry: If someone wanted to develop an effect for FxFactory, what’s the process?
Niclas: It depends on the type of product, but the best place to start is to reach out to us: support@fxfactory.com. If you want to build a product on our platform have a look at FxCore.
Larry: What’s the price of FxFactory Pro and is there a cost for the update?
Niclas: The FxFactory app is, of course, free and you can take advantage of the fact that you can download, install and test all products in trial mode free of charge before making a purchase. FxFactory Pro retails for $399.
Larry: In one line, how would you describe Fx Factory?
Niclas: FxFactory: Visual effects, audio plugins and apps for video creators!
Larry: Niclas, thank you for your time. I’ve been a happy user of FxFactory effects for years. I wish you continued success.
