“Ask Larry Anything” is a free-form question and answer session where viewers ask questions and Larry Jordan provides answers.

In this short video excerpt, Larry explains the difference between managed and external media in Final Cut Pro X; along with reasons to select one or the other when you are starting a new project.

Hi Larry, I love your YouTube videos and detailed FCP comments. I have a question. I am running on High Sierra on a Mac Mini and have FCP 10.3.4. No problems in the past but yesterday I tried to import media from my external drive for a Project and it seems to recognize the drive but spins and spins but never shows the files inside the FCP “finder” window. If I switch to another drive like MacHD, the drive contents (folders) are accessible. Can you help me? Many thanks in advance. Lionel Guy at lhg@shaw.ca

      Lionel:

If one drive works and the other doesn’t, it sounds like a drive going bad. If possible back up any data on that drive – then contact the drive manufacturer to this fixed before you lose all your data.
