FCP X: Create a Hold Frame [Video]

Whether the effect is as simple as a still frame, or a complex variable speed change during playback, changing the speed of a clip is a powerful visual effect guaranteed to catch the eye of the viewer and add “punch” to a scene.

Hold frames are new to Final Cut Pro X. They provide a more flexible way to freeze an image in the Timeline than using more traditional freeze frames.

In this short video tutorial, watch as Larry Jordan shows how to:

• Create a Hold frame
• How to modify its duration
• How to add a slow speed transition into or out of the effect
• How to easily change the frame being held (frozen)
• How to reset a clip back to normal speed
