BorisFX Acquires High-End Audio Product Family from MAGIX

Posted on by Larry

Yesterday, BorisFX announced it has acquired a high-end audio product family – Sequoia, Samplitude, and Music Studio – from MAGIX.

All three of these are Windows-only and available on the BorisFX website.

Today, to learn more, I spoke with Boris Yamnitsky, President of BorisFX.

“Did you know, Larry,” Boris began, “that most major music software began in Germany? It started decades ago with the Amiga computer. Ableton, Steinberg and other music workstations go back to the beginning of digital music. So did the founders of the programs we just acquired. They have a long history… In fact, Sequoia was voted by PC Magazine as the best application for music mastering for 2025.”

I asked Boris why he acquired these tools. Most of our customers, Boris told me, are high-end media companies: CBS, NBC, BBC, NHK, Netflix, Disney, ILM… “We are a regular part of their post-production workflow. We believe all our customers will benefit from the AI-driven audio post production and music editing offerings from Boris FX.”

“One of the reasons we acquired these,” Boris continued, “was because their current owner was concentrating on distribution. We want to grow them and boost their development. With the development tools available today, AI can significantly improve audio: restore poor audio, reduce noise, create stems directly from a finished mix, but there is more we can do with it.

“All three applications share the same code base. They are extremely fast. They can operate in real time, yet deal with audio at the object level. They are an excellent platform for future ideas.”
