A couple of month’s ago, a reader wrote in asking how to apply multiple transitions at the same time. I told them that the way Final Cut works, it only allows one transition to be selected per track.
While true, it did not, um, PRECISELY answer their question — because there IS a way to apply the default transition to multiple clips at the same time.
This is very cool — and you can use it to impress your friends at parties. Here’s how it works:
- Build a sequence in the Timeline making sure all your clips have handles.
- Move your Playhead to the beginning of the sequence
- Select all the clips to which you want to add the default transition
- Drag all the clips up to the Canvas and drop them on the red “Overwrite with Transition” overlay.
- POOF! All your clips are immediately edited back to the Timeline with the default transition (normally a 30-frame cross-dissolve) applied between each clip.
