UPDATED: Apple Releases Bug Fixes for Final Cut Pro, Motion and Compressor
[ UPDATE Aug. 2, 2023. This morning, Apple released Final Cut Pro 10.6.8, which fixes an issue where video can freeze in the Viewer. This addresses the problems expressed in the comments with v. 10.6.7. My recommendation is that if you have upgraded to 10.6.7, upgrade to 10.6.8 immediately. If you haven’t upgraded yet, wait a day or two to make sure this update doesn’t have problems, then upgrade.]
[ UPDATE July 24, 2023: Based upon user feedback, which you’ll read in the Comments below, the update for Final Cut seems to have significant playback issues. I’ve reached out to Apple to learn more and will update this article if they respond. In the meantime, I recommend waiting before upgrading – if you haven’t upgraded already.]
Apple this week released bug-fix versions of their pro video applications. From Apple’s “Release Notes,” here’s what’s new.
NOTE: Apple states: “Before installing a Final Cut Pro update, verify that your system still meets Final Cut Pro system requirements. Then make sure to back up your current version of the Final Cut Pro application and your Final Cut Pro libraries.”

← Older CommentsHi Larry, the biggest problem is that the viewer freezes after every five or 10 minutes of editing and one thing that has worked is closing the event, opening another event, clicking on a clip and getting it to play and then coming back to the event I want to work on and this sometimes works and sometimes does not. restarting final cut seems to work each time, but it is rather annoying.
Gregory:
Thanks for your comment. Hopefully others can use this workaround until Apple fixes FCP.

I recently upgraded my OS from Big Sur to Ventura so that I might be able to upgrade FCP beyond 10.6.1 but now I’m sitting on my hands. Is it possible to still access an incremental FCP upgrade? (10.6.5 or whatever might be the most stable earlier version?).
Alan:
Not online. But you may be able to do that in an Apple Store.

I always make a backup copy of the current FCP app and add the version number before upgrading. This way I can copy it back if the upgrade has issues.
Bruce:
This is a brilliant idea and one I need to emulate.

I tested FCP 10.6.8 yesterday. Unfortunatly with Tracking Callouts and some other Plugins from FX Factory still exists. I reinstalled Tracking Callouts but still – no luck.
So i went back to 10.6.5 Version of FCP, which works flawless.
I addressed this again yesterday to Gabe from FX Factory Support who responded:
Unfortunately I can only confirm what you already discovered. Although Apple rushed the 10.6.8 update to fix some other glaring regressions, they left this problem out. We voiced our disappointment, especially in light of the fact that the issue you ran into is – by now – widely known to users and developers, and has been extensively discussed days before they released 10.6.8.
While Apple does not disclose their plans with the public, I assume that the amount of pressure we have placed on them is sufficient enough to warrant another emergency update. I do not know how long it will take, but we are waiting on that update to address the problem for all users. We hope Apple has learned from the experience and will avoid the same disruption in the future.

Harry:
Thanks for reporting this. It is enormously frustrating that Apple’s quality control has slipped this badly on two successful releases. We expect better.
