UPDATED: Apple Releases Bug Fixes for Final Cut Pro, Motion and Compressor
[ UPDATE Aug. 2, 2023. This morning, Apple released Final Cut Pro 10.6.8, which fixes an issue where video can freeze in the Viewer. This addresses the problems expressed in the comments with v. 10.6.7. My recommendation is that if you have upgraded to 10.6.7, upgrade to 10.6.8 immediately. If you haven’t upgraded yet, wait a day or two to make sure this update doesn’t have problems, then upgrade.]
[ UPDATE July 24, 2023: Based upon user feedback, which you’ll read in the Comments below, the update for Final Cut seems to have significant playback issues. I’ve reached out to Apple to learn more and will update this article if they respond. In the meantime, I recommend waiting before upgrading – if you haven’t upgraded already.]
Apple this week released bug-fix versions of their pro video applications. From Apple’s “Release Notes,” here’s what’s new.
NOTE: Apple states: “Before installing a Final Cut Pro update, verify that your system still meets Final Cut Pro system requirements. Then make sure to back up your current version of the Final Cut Pro application and your Final Cut Pro libraries.”

Newer Comments →Hi Larry. There have been reports of 10.6.7 causing problems. Could you check this out please. Chris N
Chris:
I haven’t heard anything yet. What have you read?
Larry
Fortunately I have yet to update. There are many reports onFacebook rega5ding new problems associated with. this update.
I had the beachbell show up each time I tried to play the time line. I restarted at least 4 times and then trashed my preferences and so far it has been working better. I watched an online video blog this weekend and 10.6.7 has caused some problems.
Patrick:
Thanks for the feedback. Looks like if an editor hasn’t upgraded – they should hold off till the next version.
Larry
I’ve had the same beachball issue.
Serious playback issues, even with proxies.
Gary:
Ouch! Clearly, if editors haven’t upgraded to this version, they should hold off until we learn more.
I reached out to Apple to get their response to these playback issues. I’ll update this article if they respond.

After updating to this latest version, my viewer froze multiple times. Trashed preferences and that temporarily solved that issue. It has returned. Can’t check box for Voice Isolation now. Who knows that other problems lie ahead? Apple tech support could not solve my issues. Strongly recommend skipping this version.
I have problems with Tracking Callout Plugins from FX Factory since I updated. Some of the plugins I urgently need for my client work do not work as before (i.e. can’t change some of the settings like fill in text etc.) Had also the beachball problem as others. Today I addressed Apple on that and hope they respond FAST.
After updating to 10.6.7 I am having major issues with FCPX. After nearly every edit, no matter how minor, I get about 15 seconds of the spinning beach ball. It has made the editing process so slow that I’ve temporarily switched to Capcut for editing my less sophisticated projects. I find it unconscionable that Apple has not at least acknowledged publicly that they’re aware of the problems.
I have had a number of issues – lots of spinning beach balls and hangs. Something quite fundamental is screwed up because it is not one thing that causes the problem.
Thanks to everyone for these comments.
Larry
Ditto – lots of problems but can’t pin it down to one issue
Foolishly left “Auto updates” on – Crashing like never before – both on project with multi cams and without. First time I regret an update. Shocked Apple hasn’t presented a fix already with the amount of crash reports they are getting from me alone!
