Adobe Releases New Versions of Premiere, After Effects, Audition and Other Media Apps
This week, Adobe released new versions of its video and audio applications: Premiere Pro, After Effects, Audition, Media Encoder, Character Animator and Premiere Rush. There is a LOT in these new releases. Here are the details.
NOTE: This information is taken from a number of Adobe press releases.
ADOBE PREMIERE PRO
Premiere Pro (version 15.0) is the first release in the 2021 versions of the Creative Cloud video applications. This version provides new support for graphics functionality and cross application workflows, enabling new features such as Captions in Premiere Pro and Media Replacement in Motion Graphics templates.
Within a major release, project files are forward and backward compatible: you can open and save any Premiere Pro v15.x project with any 15.x version of Premiere Pro – including Dynamic Link with After Effects 18.x versions. If you open a project from a previous version, Premiere Pro 15.x will save the original project and create a new 15.x project file.
New features include:
- New Caption workflow. Captions are now integrated seamlessly into editorial, connecting text with the Timeline and the design tools in the Essential Graphics panel, so you can make better videos and do it faster.
- Media Replacement. You can now swap out specified media within a motion graphics template, such as logos and video clips. This gives you even more creative freedom to create work that stands out from the crowd.
- Faster Warp Stabilizer. Dramatically faster analysis of shaky footage, while the actual stabilization remains the same.
- Team Projects. Access to the Search bar is now available while indexing. As well, access to the Search Bar and SmartBin content is now significantly faster than before.
- Equitable Language. Adobe replaced non-inclusive language and reference imagery in Premiere Pro, After Effects and Audition.
- Copy and Paste Audio Effects in the Audio Track Mixer. You can now copy and paste complete audio effects racks between audio tracks. Pasted audio effects racks include all of the effects and settings of the original track. You can further adjust individual settings in the pasted track effects racks without affecting the other tracks.
- Legacy Audio Effects Removed. Premiere Pro 15.0 removes several legacy audio effects, including Chorus, DeClicker, DeCrackler, DeEsser, DeHummer, DeNoiser, Dynamics, EQ, Flanger, Multiband Compressor, Phaser, Pitch Shifter, Reverb, and Spectral Noise Reduction. All of these have already been replaced by new or equivalent effects.

AFTER EFFECTS
New features include:
- Media Replacement in Motion Graphics templates and Essential Properties. Create Motion Graphics templates that have replaceable media such as images and videos. Editors can use them in Premiere Pro to create complex graphics and animations with customizable parameters and swappable media.
- Real-Time 3D Draft Preview. A new real-time 3D rendering engine provides instant feedback on designs in the Composition panel so you can explore ideas more easily and iterate on design more quickly.
- 3D Ground Plane. This enables designers orient their designs in space, providing a horizon line and vanishing point. You can toggle a grid on and off for accurate orientation and use snapping to align objects in space or in relation to each other. Ground Plane button only appears when using the new Draft 3D preview mode.
- Improved Composition Toolbar. Work seamlessly across both 2D and 3D, by surfacing the most-used composition tools based on context. This avoids the need to constantly enable/disable a large number of settings as you switch back and forth. The updated Composition panel toolbar has been reorganized and displays options dynamically, based on the currently selected layer.
- Team Projects performance improvements. Cloud-based collaboration is more fluid and efficient. After Effects artists can now share and receive changes to Team Projects faster. Searches are now at least twice as fast, thanks to more efficient indexing.
- Equitable Language. Adobe replaced non-inclusive language and reference imagery in Premiere Pro, After Effects and Audition.

- Insert Mode in Waveform Editor. The new Insert mode in the Waveform edior enables you to insert audio at playhead position without overwriting. This feature is especially useful for voice workflows in the Waveform editor, Insert Recording mode also supports punch and roll, allowing the speaker to preview the preceding audio before recording the new segment. This makes it easier to match the cadence and delivery of the original performance. Select Overwrite mode if you want to overwrite audio.
- Keyframe Dragging. Keyframe dragging is now limited until the clip edge and cannot be dragged beyond clip boundaries.
- Equitable Language. Adobe replaced non-inclusive language and reference imagery in Premiere Pro, After Effects and Audition.
