Media Trends Discussed at IBC 2025
Laura Peters, one of my producers, is at IBC 2025 in Amsterdam this weekend. In addition to interviewing key industry leaders, I asked her to report back on the trends she was hearing at the show.
In bullet form, here’s what she heard.
- There is increasing interest in moving media out of the cloud and into on-premise storage. Why? Faster response time, lower costs, and greater security. This is especially true when the privacy policies of cloud vendors allow them to use your media to train AI systems.
- Developers are increasingly focused on listening to customers. “Many, if not every, person I spoke with mentioned this to me,” Laura adds.
- Making remote teams able to collaborate is imperative, though this seems to conflict with moving more media on-premises.
- Automatic language translation is increasingly popular; especially live translation. Dell, for instance, launched a product that translates video, then adjusts lip sync to match. Axle AI does language translation, and Apple announced live translation in the next version of iPhone/AirPods.
- DaVinci Resolve is gaining in mindshare for professional editors, not just for color grading, but for editing.
- Improving workflow by reducing pain points and improving efficiency.
- Finding ways to use AI, especially generative AI, responsibly while protecting and honoring copyrights.
I’ll add more as I get additional reports. Please share your thoughts in the comments.
