Create Audio Presets in Adobe Premiere Pro

Customizing audio presets in Adobe Premiere allows you to quickly modify, repair or improve similar audio, even if it isn’t in the same sequence or project.

For example, you can create a preset that removes hum, reduces background noise, and enhances the speaker’s voice – all with one click.

Here’s how.

CREATE A PRESET

• Open a sequence into the timeline.
• Open the Essential Sound panel (Window > Essential Sound).
• Select a timeline audio clip. (While this step isn’t technically necessary, it often helps to listen to the results of a preset to make sure the audio sounds the way you want.)

• Click the Dialogue tag to assign it to the selected clip(s) and open the Dialogue settings panel.You can create presets for Music, SFX or Ambience. But Dialogue provides the most control over your sound.

NOTE: If you select the wrong Tag, click Clear Audio Type to remove the Tag and start over (red arrow).

• Adjust the Dialogue settings as you see fit.

• Click the Preset menu to see existing settings.

• Enable and adjust settings to achieve the sound you want. Then, when you are satisfied with the settings, click the “Save Settings” icon (red arrow).

• Give the preset a name that makes sense to you.

• This new custom preset now appears in the Preset menu.

NOTE: While you can’t delete any preset created by Adobe, you can delete any custom preset by choosing it from the Preset menu, then clicking the Trash icon on the right side of the Essential Sound panel (red arrow).

SUMMARY

If all your audio clips sound different, audio presets may not help. But, much more often, we are making the same changes to our audio over and over … and over. Audio presets make applying these adjustments blindingly fast.
