How to Fix Bad Final Cut Pro X Plug-ins
[ This article was written by Luke at Bel Photo. ]
After updating to the latest version 10.5 I opened and updated the library as suggested only to discover that many titles and effects were unavailable.
Very frustrating! I tried restarting, deleting preferences and it didn’t work! But when you right click and reveal them on finder they are still there!
After doing some research, I found the solution.
The Apple Discussion Forum recommended to delete (trash) the affected plugins and to re-download and re-install them.
Before I did that, I updated the mInstaller of MotionVFX, the FxFactory software, and the Pixel Film Studios installer.
- The mInstaller did a rather long repair of permissions and then I could re-install their plugins (without a prior delete).
- The FxFactory performed an “Unlock” of the plugins that I had purchased from their website and that was it.
- The Pixel Film Studios plugins took a lot more time. I had to physically delete their folders (Generators, Titles, Transitions,Effects). Then, re-download the plugins individually and re-install them. Their installing process is extremely slow but it worked.
The whole process took a few hours, but, now I’m back into full operation.
