Good tips on cleaning up things. Another way (there are so many) to use your level variations scheme is to do exactly what you did but instead of selecting the area that you want to affect and deleting everything else, just make your levels adjustment to for the hat to the top layer then add a black mask to that layer. Using a soft edged brush paint with white over the hat area being careful not to go too wide and voila both parts are where you want them. If they aren’t exactly perfect you can paint back into the mask to tighten it up or white to expand it, or indepently adjust the individual levels adjustments that you made until they aesthetically please you. I expect that you and most of your readers already know these kind of tricks and I’m probably preaching to folks who know more that I, but I find this way much more easily adjustable being non destructive if you later don’t like where you ended up.
Thanks for all you do! I’ve been learning from you forever…
Cool tip. Thanks for sharing.

Final Cut 7 wont allow me to import all my jpg photo files. I can see them in other programs, but they come up as an error into Final Cut 7. Is there any way to fix these with a rename, thus not having to output again in photoshop?
thank you
malcolm
Malcolm:
You can try renaming to .JPEG – but I suspect you’ll need to re-output these. And, if you do, reoutput as PNG. Bigger file size but smoother editing.
