Conversation on Craft - cinematography

DESCRIPTION

We continue our “Conversations on Craft” with a look at cinematography. Our goal is to provide different perspectives on the craft and business of creating magic with cameras and lights. This week, we showcase four wide-ranging interviews with cinematographers and directors of photography from recent episodes of the Digital Production Buzz:

  • Art Adams
  • Mark August
  • Cullie Poseria
  • William LaChasse

Art Adams is a cinematographer with 28 years experience in the film industry. He he spent ten years in Hollywood working on features and TV series before returning to his native Northern California, where he currently shoots commercials and corporate marketing projects. Between shoots he works as a consultant for a number of industry companies including Sony, Sound Devices and DSC Labs, and writes technical and educational articles at ProVideo Coalition and DVInfo.

Mark August is a veteran camera operator and filmmaker with 25 years in US Navy as a combat photographer covering the Desert Storm War in 1991 and Global War on Terrorism in Afghanistan. He retired from the Navy just a couple of months ago. (March, 2015) He is a founding member of the Digital Cinema Society, Veterans in Film and Television (VFT), and currently president of the Society of Camera Operators.

Cinematographer, Cullie Poseria, graduated from NYU in 2012 with a BFA in film and TV and a deep love of photography. She loves creating unique and emotional images with lighting and camera work. She’s just starting her career and has a newcomers eye to the industry.

William LaChasse has created unique photographic images since he was six years old. His work at ad agencies for clients such as Cadillac, Airwick, Sunbeam, and others, has broken boundaries and created amazing ad campaigns. He is an expert at digital imagery and, in this discussion, explains how he sees and lights a scene.
