While Log & Capture is used to bring video in from tape, Log & Transfer is used to acquire video and audio from tapeless sources; such as P2, XDCAM, RED, and others. There is no doubt that Log & Transfer is the future of Final Cut Pro.



In this short, focused tutorial, I will show you how to use the Log & Transfer window to preview tapeless media, set In and Out points, how and where to log clips, how to determine which audio tracks to import, how to switch audio between stereo and dual-channel mono settings, how to recapture a missing clip and special settings to work with RED files.



While the Log & Transfer window was introduced with Final Cut Studio, some of the features illustrated here require Final Cut Pro 6.


Note: This tutorial does not address the transcoding of AVCHD into ProRes. I’ll do that in a separate tutorial. This is a QuickTime movie and does not require Final Cut Pro to view.
