One of the most fascinating effects in video is called the Traveling Matte. This is where one video clip is superimposed over another video clip. However, more than a simple rectangular picture-in-picture, a traveling matte can put the foreground video into any text or custom shape.



In this short, focused, tutorial, Larry Jordan shows you how to create two types of traveling mattes: one that moves and one that doesn’t. Starting with creating a shape in Photoshop, Larry walks you through the steps to creating your effect:
