TRAINING DESCRIPTION

Motion 5 is the driving force behind all the effects in Final Cut Pro X. However, Motion is a high-power effects package all on its own. In this session, go deep inside Motion to discover how to create lines, shapes, and masks. In every case, you begin with a path.

Watch as host, Larry Jordan, shows how to create paths (curved lines to which you can attach things like text or objects) to create effects which are more organic, less rectangular, and more interesting than what you can create in Final Cut. From that simple beginning he builds unusual shapes, animations, smooth curves, dashed lines, and a variety of masks. (A mask, by the way, is a area of transparency in an image; masks are how you hide parts of an image.)

Along the way, he demonstrates how to animate text along a curved line, animate shapes, and harness the power of paths to create extremely flexible mask shapes. He showcases the difference between Bezier and B-spline curves, when to use each, and shows you what you can create with them. This session covers a lot of different effects that are truly fascinating – and easy to create!

In this video tutorial, you will learn how to:

  • Create a modify lines using the Paint Stroke tool
  • Create curved and dashed lines
  • Create open and closed shapes
  • Animate text and shapes on a curved path
  • Create a variety of non-rectangular masks
  • Use both B-spline and Bezier masking tools

AUDIENCE LEVEL

This webinar is designed for all Final Cut Pro X or Motion 5 editors that want to go beyond the extremely limited masking available in Final Cut Pro X, or who want to create effects in Motion that aren’t available in FCP X. (You don’t need to own Final Cut Pro X or Motion 5 to watch this training.)
