Earlier this week, Avid released two Guides and free licenses to using their tools for working at home.

The global response to the coronavirus outbreak is pushing the media and entertainment industry—from individual creators to the largest studios and broadcasters—to reevaluate our ways of working in order to stay safe.

In these difficult times, we need to come together as a community to find creative solutions to the challenges of working remotely. I’d like to share how Team Avid is quickly mobilizing to help you stay productive, no matter where you’re working. (Avid)

In this first Guide, Avid provides free licenses for remote users of Avid creative tools, as well as describes how to use current Avid applications in remote workflows.

Additionally, Avid is providing free three-month licenses “for qualifying educational institutions that use Media Composer, Pro Tools, or Sibelius in your classes, we will provide free three-month software licenses so that students can continue their education with as little disruption as possible.”

UPDATE – MAR. 23,2020

After this was published, Avid sent me the following note:

We are also offering any facility whose workers were sent home (editors and sound mixers) temp licenses as well.

Companies should submit the request for licenses on behalf of their employees. If you are an employee – either full time, contractual or freelance – working for a company that has asked you to work from home, you should request your employer to make a request for a license on your behalf.

Licenses will only be provided to users whose company owns the same product being requested, and the product is either an active subscription or under an active upgrade and support contract. A maximum of one license will be provided per one owned and active license.
