Apple Updates the Pro Video Codecs (Nov. 2020)

Last week, as part of the release of the latest versions of Final Cut Pro X, Motion and Compressor (link), Apple also updated to the Pro Video codecs to version 2.2.0.

This free update is available via the Apple Menu > System Preferences > Software Update and provides support for the following codecs that are used in professional video workflows:

NOTE: Apple says that ProRes RAW and ProRes RAW HQ require a Mac computer that supports Metal. Here’s an Apple KnowledgeBase article that explains more: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT205073.

This update is recommended for all media editors – not just Final Cut – and can be installed on Catalina or Big Sur. I have already installed these with no problems and recommend you install them too.
