Apple Updates Final Cut Pro (v11.1), Motion (v5.10) and Compressor (v4.10)
Today, Apple updated Final Cut Pro – Mac, Motion and Compressor. Here are the details, according to release notes supplied by Apple.
Apple Final Cut Pro v11.1
At long last, adjustment layers (Apple calls them “Adjustment Clips”) are available in FCP. Plus, Apple added Image Playground to generate images inside FCP.
Final Cut Pro 11.1 includes the following enhancements:
- Add color corrections and effects to an adjustment clip above the timeline to apply them to a range of clips at once.
- Get inspired with Image Playground and use Apple Intelligence to quickly create stylized images based on a description, suggested concepts, or people from your Photos library. (Requires Apple Intelligence and macOS 15.2.)
- Speed up your Magnetic Mask workflows with important bug fixes, performance improvements, and a new keyboard shortcut to show or hide the Magnetic Mask Editor.
- Use the Quantec QRS (Quantec Room Simulator) effect to create natural and transparent audio reverbs that simulate real acoustic spaces.
- Stay organized by renaming audio effects in the inspector.
- Reveal the source of a multicam angle or synced clip in the browser.
- Move markers in the timeline by dragging them in a clip, or remove markers by dragging them out of a clip.
Additional support and bug fixes:
- The Magnetic Mask Editor now closes automatically when the last Magnetic Mask is removed from a clip.
- Improves reliability when batch exporting compound clips that contain Magnetic Masks.
- Adds support for using Transcribe to Captions with a single audio role component.
- Improves stability when dragging a library item to a text editor to generate an FCPXML.
- Improves reliability when upgrading a library that contains 100 fps clips.
- Improves reliability when sharing a project that includes ARRI ProRes MXF media.
- Fixes an issue that prevented a LUT from being automatically applied when importing ARRIRAW MXF clips.
- Improves performance when applying Smooth Slo-Mo to ProRes 4444 files with an alpha channel on Mac models with M1.
- Fixes an issue that caused audio to go out of sync when adding 25 fps clips to a 23.98 fps timeline.
- Fixes an issue that could cause sound to slip out of sync when detaching audio from a clip with a J-cut and a through edit.
- Fixes an issue that caused an MP3 or AAC audio file to have a truncated audio waveform after export.
- Fixes an issue that caused black frames to be displayed when playing back HEVC clips from a RED camera.
- Fixes an issue that prevented the browser from automatically scrolling to an active cell in list view.
- Fixes an issue that caused the selected browser clip to change when Show Hidden Clips was enabled.

10 Responses to Apple Updates Final Cut Pro (v11.1), Motion (v5.10) and Compressor (v4.10)
Image Playground yes but is that just for limited areas? Cant see it here in Sweden.
Jan:
Image Playground is part of Apple Intelligence, which Apple is slowly rolling out world-wide. I’m not sure when it is coming to Sweden.
Larry
Apple Intelligence needs to be enabled, which currently requires macOS Sequoia 15.1 or later, an M1 chip or later, at least 16GB of RAM and that your system language is set to US English…
Tomas:
Correct. Thanks for the clarification.
Larry
Actually several other versions of English are already supported, including UK English thankfully… 😉 Like Jan, I too have an interest in Swedish but there is no mention of it from Apple yet. The current scope is defined here: https://support.apple.com/en-gb/121115
Q: if I increase the frame rate on a clip, can I then apply slomo to it and get a better slo-mo, or is that a fruitless exercise?
Mark:
If the faster frame rate is recorded during shooting, yes. If you are increasing the frame rate in post, no.
Larry
Final Cut Pro 11.1, Compressor 4.10, and Motion 5.10 all have a bug that randomly inserts clicky audio noise when outputting to an MXF container.
This happens regardless of the codec and recording format when outputting to an MXF container.
If you repeat the same task multiple times with the same source, the point where the clicky noise is inserted is different, so the point where the noise occurs is literally random.
Kim:
Be sure to report this bug to Apple, using the feedback form inside FCP.

The three truly useful features in this FCP 11.1 upgrade are:
1) Movable markers,
2) Finding the source clip in a multi-cam timeline and
3) Adjustment clips can have fades applied to the beginning and the end.
Why does it take Apple, so long to get there?
