COURSE DESCRIPTION

Both Adobe Media Encoder (AME) and Apple Compressor recently underwent upgrades. In this week’s webinar, we compare the two software to see what’s new; along with a look at some advanced features that we have not covered in the past.

Join host, Larry Jordan, as he showcases:

This short video excerpt illustrates how job chaining in Apple Compressor can save time when compressing multiple versions of the same file.

One Response to Apple Compressor: Job Chaining Speeds Compression [video]

  1. Greg says:

Thanks for the tip! Where this comes into play for me is when I finish a long video in FCP X (1-2 hours) and need to output it to bunch of different formats. If I “Send to Compressor,” it takes an extremely long time to do each video. Seems like it has to re-render the entire timeline with each different format.

The faster way, I have found, is to export a ProRes master file and then bring that into compressor as the source file. It exports a whole lot faster that way. The problem is that doing that is a two-step process. Can’t leave it overnight and have all the formats done in the morning. By doing the Job Chaining, I can now “Send to Compressor” to produce the Master File and then produce the additional formats off of that. In other words, I can push a button and come back in the morning with everything finished. Game changer!
